When uploading any type of phone number (Home, Business, Fax, and Cell) into a mobileStorm list, the number must ONLY be 10 digits long with NO SPECIAL CHARACTERS. Ex. "3105551234"
Read the following steps to remove any special characters from your file.
1. Go to your text editor program.
Windows: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
Mac: Hard Drive > Applications > TextEdit
2. The next step is to open your CSV file. (Note: XLS files will not, so make sure you have a .CSV or .TXT file to start with. If you don't know how to create a CSV file, please read this tutorial.)
File > Open (Ctrl +O)
3. Find your file on your computer and open it up.
4. The next steps is to get rid of the dashes, paraenthesis, etc.
- Go to "Edit > Replace"
- In the "Find what" box, type the special character you want to find.
- In the "Replace with" box, put absolutely nothing there. Make sure there isn't even a 'space' from your keyboard. You just want to remove the character, right?
5. Your text editor program will now go through the file and remove all of those characters. Make sure you rinse and repeat for all of the characters so you only have 10 digits left. "3105551234"
6. Save your new file.
What if I have a CSV file with multiple columns? How would I do that? You would use the same process, expect this "Find & Replace" feature also lies in Excel.
1. Open up your file in Excel.
2. Select the column of phone numbers. It's very important that you select the column or Excel will remove special characters from all of your columns. If you have more than one column of phone numbers, you can select them all.
3. Hit the key combination of "Ctrl+F" to bring up the "Find & Replace" box.
4. Use the same process as above.
Advanced Tip:
You can also use your text editor program to remove quotation marks from your CSV.
