Some Impressive Mobile Email Usage Stats
It’s no secret that digital marketers must take into account mobile usage these days when preparing and sending email marketing campaigns, but you may be surprised by just how quickly usage is being skewed towards the mobile channel.
Thanks to the folks over at emailmonday.com, it was revealed that mobile email will account for 10-35% of total email opens by 2013, depending on your target audience, product, and email type. In addition, it was revealed that more than one-half (56%) of US consumers who have made at least one purchase using their smartphone have done so in response to a marketing message delivered via mobile email.
Consider the following graphs:

An incredible amount of additional mobile email usage stats is available here for continued reading.

SIgnificant changes are occurring in the way we use email and do business over it. With the proliferation of tablets, that will continue to increase dramatically.
Text messaging still can beat email marketing because its much cheap and effective.
I think email marketing is easier and cheaper. You only need to pay your intenet provider and your email hosting.
I definitely think mobile marketing is still in the early stages of discovery.
What REALLY surprised me about those statistics is that Text messages were the second highest in causing conversions!!
I had no idea that text message marketing was such an effective online marketing tool, even beating out facebook.
Email marketing will definitely always be the leader in the industry though, I think. We have to focus on how to cater to those mobile email opens though!
For instance– I had one marketer keep linking me to a website that had embedded videos and for some reason the videos would never load on my phone. Talk about frustrating.

Mike, SMS is a great channel when done right, but it has to be done right. Its all about the user experience as you pointed out and an channel like SMS has a great UE.
At the current time digital market is one of the most helpful and creative marking technique and this is cost effective too.
It seems that more and more people are using smart phones and tablets these days and although I have limited experience with sms marketing it does seem to be very effective if its used in the right way, thanks for the data too!
"more than one-half (56%) of US consumers who have made at least one purchase using their smartphone have done so in response to a marketing message delivered via mobile email"
That is a powerful statistic right there.
I see a big shift happening with folks I interact with on a daily basis. More and more of my business associates, friends and family are preferring to browse the web, use email and make purchases on a mobile device instead of a lap top or desktop.
I have made the mistake before of not optimizing emails, websites etc. for mobile devices. In the past you may have turned away just a few mobile users, but today not optimizing for mobile can be a huge and mistake – a big opportunity cost lost.
I think it'll be very interesting to see how things progress in the mobile marketing world over the next 6-12 months. I think we have some very exciting things in store.
All the best,
Ryan
Tnx for sharing this very useful information …
Very informative, thanks
Number of mobile users are increasing very fast and mobile has become one popular source of using internet. Above status are showing that use of mobile technology for internet & reading email. i want to say thanks for sharing this very informative post.
I agree with that! And the ways to put your message by images and pull by using CTA-Buttons is way stronger, I think.
I believe in those statistics as I am one of them. A lot of people access their email over their mobile phones rather than the desktop or laptops. It is much easier and more convenient for us people who are always on the go.
